In September 28 and 29, 2026, a workshop titled “Integrating a Scientometrics Module into Educational Programs at New Higher Education Institute (NEWUNI): Institutional Vision, Development of Research Capabilities, and Future Prospects” was held at NEWUNI.

The event was conducted within the framework of the ERIC-GE ​​project, aiming to strengthen the institution’s research capabilities and activities, introduce the field of scientometrics, and facilitate integration into the international academic community.

Participants included NEWUNI’s academic and administrative staff—including those involved in research activities—as well as library representatives and other interested parties. The event was opened by Professor Tamar Gardapkhadze, Rector of the New Higher Education Institute (NEWUNI), and Professor Nana Tsikhistavi, Senior Researcher/Consultant for the ERIC-GE ​​team.

Professor Natia Gogolauri presented the following to the participants:

  • The development vision of the New Higher Education Institute (NEWUNI);
  • The goals and ongoing activities of the ERIC-GE ​​project, as well as the experience gained within its framework;
  • NEWUNI’s research priorities and interdisciplinary research—specifically, research directions defined by the synergy of accredited bachelor’s degree programs, priority research topics within these programs, and activities outlined in the research development plan;
  • Updates regarding the international scientific journal *Diplomacy and Law*;
  • International scientific conferences for students and academic staff; mechanisms for facilitating and funding publications in international scientific journals; internal grant competitions; training sessions; and prospects for introducing master’s programs;
  • Opportunities to integrate scientometrics components into existing bachelor’s programs at NEWUNI.

Professor Sopio Moralishvili presented:

  • A presentation titled “Research as a Strategic Foundation for University Development: European Practices and Institutional Perspectives”;
  • Issues regarding the provision and implementation of targeted training for academic staff and researchers;
  • Key topics for planned training sessions in the field of scientometrics;

The progress of developing intensive training modules focused on scientometrics. The meeting featured discussions on the importance of research-based teaching, high-quality scientific activity, international academic collaboration, the development of a research culture, research support, and the implementation of joint research projects with international partners within the modern university context; topics related to scientometrics within the framework of courses or modules were also addressed.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the key findings were summarized with the active participation of the attendees, and prospects for future collaboration were outlined.

This event marks another significant step in realizing the mission and goals of the new higher education institution, NEWUNI: to advance research activities, foster students’ research skills, and achieve integration into the European Higher Education Area by enhancing research quality, upgrading academic staff qualifications, facilitating the realization of potential, and engaging in active research.
